5 Hidden Gems in Brussels

If you're looking for things to do in Brussels, look no further! From exploring the capital of the European Union’s charming streets to sampling delicious Belgian beers, you can find something for everyone in Brussels – if you look hard enough. As a solo female traveler, I felt safe, welcomed, and inspired to explore what the city has to offer. Plus, public transportation is efficient and easy to use, making it simple to get around and see everything that you want.

Chicago Cafe Brussels

Grab Brunch at the Chicago Cafe

I'll be the first to say it – I spent a week in Brussels, and I would not consider it a city of many hidden gems. However, the Chicago Cafe is one of the few. As a Chicago native, you know I had to check out this brunch place. After a month of European breakfast, it was a welcome taste of home. The interior is reminiscent of the Chicago L and traditional small-town American diners. But the food offers a big punch. They also have a sister Chicago restaurant that serves Chicago-style pizza.

Amadeus in Brussels

Try Unlimited Ribs at Amadeus

I met up with a pal from my EF Ultimate Break content creation trip, and we decided to just see what we found for dinner. A storefront named after the composer, complete with Chinese statues and a full library, quickly caught our attention. We walked in and grabbed a table. We soon realized that this eclectic spot served all-you-can-eat ribs and all-you-can-eat ribs only. Amadeus is a bizarre concept, but it was honestly so good. We were SO happy we stumbled in.

In fact, how you were served, wine was the best part. Every table has a bottle of wine. You pour however much you want, and at the end of the meal, your server will measure how much you drank to determine how much to charge you. It was such a fun concept, and I'll definitely be back next time I'm in town.

Sip on Classic Belgium Beers at the Brussels Beer Project

The Brussels Beer Project has a rotating selection of local Belgian beers as well as international selections. It's a great place to grab a beer, chat with locals, and just enjoy the feel of the city. The staff is incredibly friendly, and they can help you pick out a beer that fits your tastes. Plus, the atmosphere is fun and laid-back – perfect for solo travelers! I can honestly say every single beer I had in Belgium was the best I ever had. Truly a beer-lovers paradise.

Eat Dinner at Café Walvis

A traditional Belgian pub meets hipsters. That's how I would describe Café Walvis. I found myself here on my first night in Brussels and was welcomed by man-bun-clad men, so I knew the burgers and beer would be top-notch. This was one of my favorite meals during my time in Belgium. Definitely get the fries – they were invented in Belgium after!

Drink Cocktails at Jungle Bar

Jungle Bar is a bit out-of-this-world with its tropical theme in the heart of Brussels. It's upbeat, LGBTQ+ friendly, and has a great selection of cocktails. Plus, the music was always bumpin', and it's near some other popular bars, so you can easily hit up multiple spots in one night.
