How to Visit the Pyramids of Giza

Let’s face it: The coolest place I’ve ever traveled is Egypt. And I know you’re here because you want to see some pyramid pics. Visiting Egypt is the most chaotic place I’ve ever been, and I highly suggest hiring a guide to take you to sites. It makes transportation painless and saves you time. I recommend hiring someone from Get Your Guide or going on an organized tour such as Travel Talk Tours.

Pyramid of Djoser: Egypt’s First Pyramid

If you want to go inside any of the pyramids, I highly recommend visiting the step pyramid of Djoser and the surrounding ruins. One of Egypt’s earliest monarchs, King Djoser, created this pyramid around the 27th century B.C. Unlike the Great Pyramid, the internal walls are artfully decorated. Truthfully, I enjoyed visiting these old-school pyramids more than the pyramids of Giza!

Pyramids of Giza

You can't go to Egypt and not see the pyramids of Giza. This, of course, includes the famous Great Pyramid. The pyramids are located right along the edge of Cairo. While this photo makes the pyramids appear far away, you can walk right up to them and even go inside the Great Pyramid. Although there is nothing of note inside, I think it's a bit of a waste of money to go inside. If you choose to go inside, it costs about 400 EGP or 26 USD. You, of course, can snap your photos and even hire a camel ride around the iconic sites. Just be sure to negotiate the total price of the camel ride before you hop on. Sometimes vendors like to charge you both to get on the camel and get off!

Sphinx

You're just a stone's throw away from the Sphinx when visiting the pyramids. I was surprised that it wasn't more isolated – it's "just kinda there." That being said, some people pay big bucks to spend a few minutes standing between the Sphinx's paws near the Dream Stele. The Dream Stele is an epigraphic stele that contains a story about the Spinx's promise to make Thutmose ruler of Egypt. Regardless, people pay a lot of money to stand in between its paws to cleanse and feel some out-of-world magic.

Visiting the pyramids is just one of the many, many accomplishments you'll witness in Egypt. Make sure you take the time to explore other ancient wonders such as Abu Simble, Karnak Temple, Luxor Temple, Edfu, and more. That being said, I definitely "felt like I was in Egypt" the first time I laid eyes on these beauties. I suggest coming back at night to get a view of them lit up against the sky (but skip the light show, it is very outdated).
