New besties on board!

There is no better way to experience the majesty of the Nile River than by taking an overnight felucca ride down its length. Traveling in a traditional Egyptian sailing vessel provides a unique perspective on the river and its surroundings and is an unforgettable experience. So, if you're looking for a different type of vacation, consider spending a night or two on a felucca traveling down the Nile River!

The felucca is a wooden sailing vessel that has been used for centuries in Egypt to travel up and down the Nile River. It is a very peaceful way to experience this iconic river, as you gently sail past ancient temples, villages, and fields.

The felucca was part of my experience with Travel Talk Tours. I particularly love Travel Talk because they work to employ local people so that the money goes directly back into the Egyptian economy.

The crew of our felucca was a local family who lived in the nearby Nubian Village. The Nubian Village is exceptionally colorful and is absolutely worth a visit for its stunning architecture. However, it is quite a tourist trap so be wary of that.

On the ride, the crew will provide all the food and drink you need, and you can relax on deck under the stars, watching the river unfold before you. The crew cooked us delicious meals throughout our stay and picked up requested beer and wine before we set sail.

It should be noted that there are no restrooms on the boats. But, don't let that scare you! A larger boat follows behind the felucca so you can use the bathroom periodically throughout the day. At night, they tie the felucca next to the larger ship so you can get up and use the restroom at any time.

We enjoyed diving off the boat and swimming in the Nile throughout the days sailing. Don't worry – there are no crocodiles in this part of the Nile River.

At night, we enjoyed traditional music and dancing around a bonfire. It was a great way to end each day and spend time with the other travelers.
