Unique Chicago Airbnbs: Unit 3 Bnb
A bright, airy, and perfectly Chicago Airbnb.
While the owner of Unit 3 BnB provided accommodations, as always opinions are my own.
In my humble opinion, I believe home-sharing is the best way to travel. You get more bang for your buck, and you get to experience a place more fully.
Sites like Airbnb are filled with home after home, but some hosts go above and beyond. Wendy, who runs Unit 3 BnB in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago, is just that host.
Unit 3 BnB is a studio – but by name only. This place is huuuuuge. The top-floor loft has separate spaces for the living room, workspace, bed, dining room, kitchen, and extra sofa bed – plus a delightful backyard!
What sets it apart from other stays in the area is Wendy’s attention to detail. There is a reason the space is part of Airbnb Plus – she has thought of everything. The moment you walk up the stairs you are greeted by a personalized sign welcoming you to the space.
As soon as you set down your bags, your jaw drops a little and you say “wow”. The natural light in this long Chicago loft is unreal. It pours in.
If you’re looking to get some work done on your visit, the property has a darling office nook, complete with a desk, charging station, and basic office supplies. When I arrived for my visit, I was in a particularly stressed mood. I opened up my laptop in the mini-office, turned on the kettle, and felt a calm I haven’t felt in a long time (especially during this pandemic!). There is something about the natural light and minimalist space that makes you feel calm. The BnB emits zens – there was even a sanitized yoga mat for guest use!
After completing some work, I wandered over to the kitchen. Wendy has provided a generous snack bowl with plenty of options to get you through your evening and morning, as well as a french press, and loads of teas. I wanted to take my tea out and sit on their “secret garden" like backyard patio, but unfortunately, it was a chilly day. On a return visit, I could spend hours on their recently renovated patio – complete with string lights and plants galore.
My favorite element of the studio was the collection of oldies vinyl. I enjoyed plenty of Dolly and Aretha throughout the evening.
Wendy is so thoughtful that she even provides children’s books and games for folks traveling with little ones. She also offers a selection of DVDs and access to streaming accounts.
Now let’s chat about that queen size bed. I’ve slept at hundreds of hotels and Airbnbs in my time, and that bed is in the top five softest beds I’ve ever come across. When you’ve finished exploring Chicago, this bed will be the perfect place to knock out in.
The next morning I woke up naturally to the sunrise. The space is absolutely breathtaking in the morning light. I again revisited my old friend the french press and enjoyed a cup of joe from local roasters. Another highlight of the space is its commitment to the Logan Square neighborhood. The main wall in the kitchen has artwork showing off the beauty of the neighborhood by local artists, and plenty of meal recommendations for neighborhood gems on the fridge.
Aside from the fantastic setup, the most important feature of Unit 3 BnB is its location. It is located in the heart of Logan Square/Bucktown. If you aren’t familiar with Chicago – this is a trendy neighborhood that captures some of the best of Chicago. The food is pristine and creative, the brews are top-notch, and there is always something going on here. You’re steps away from major public transportation lines that can get you wherever you need to be in the city.
Tourists often make the slightly disappointing choice of booking a hotel in the Loop. That’s a mistake. You want to stay in the heart of a Chicago neighborhood. Unit 3 Bnb sits in one of the fantastic life veins of Chicago.
