Visiting Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal

Philadelphia’s Reading Terminal Market is awesome.

Created in 1893, this massive indoor market is one of the United State’s oldest farmers’ markets. With a whopping 76,000 sq. ft of space, over 70 local merchants make their living from selling the finest cheeses, coffee, pastries, Amish goods and so, so much more.

I’ve always been tickled by Seattle’s Pikes Place – but believe it or not I loved this market even more. There was so much energy inside this market that had me smiling ear to ear. I felt like I was in an Anthony Bourdain episode, being hydrated by the energetic fellow foodies around me.

I truly only did one thing in my time in Philly, and I am glad it was this. I picked up coffee from Old City Coffee (brewed on-site!) and grabbed a breakfast sandwich and scone from the Market Bakery.

You can visit the market for any flavor though – they have sit-down dinner service, classic, Cajun, a great Greek joint, and of course Philly cheese steaks.

Unfortunately, it can be crowded if you’re someone who prefers to avoid people. That being said, it’s worth “sucking it up” and making a trip. It’s a unique place worth the crowds.

I know I will be making a stop here every time I visit Philly!
