How to Visit Heidiland from Zürich, Switzerland

View from Rapperswil, Switzerland

If you're looking for a charming and picturesque destination to visit in Switzerland, look no further than Heidiland. This unique region is home to rolling hills, beautiful lakes, and of course, the world-famous Heidi Village. Here you can experience traditional Swiss culture and lifestyle first-hand.

How to Visit Heidiland from Zürich

You can rent a car and visit on your own, or join a tour group. I took Heidiland & Liechtenstein Day Tour from Zurich with Gray Line Tours, and I highly recommend this experience. I paid full price for this ticket, so this isn't even a sponsored post!

This experience was stellar. The excursion takes you on a brief city tour of Zürich, a walking tour and lunch stop at the darling Swiss village of Rapperswil, a chance to get your passport stamped in the small but mighty country of Liechtenstein, and the opportunity to explore the majestic scenary in the village of Switzerland's beloved fictional character, Heidi.

Stop at Rapperswil, Switzerland

If you're like me and are extremely short on time in Switzerland, take a drive out to Rapperswil. This charming Swiss village gets you out of the hustle and bustle of Zürich and gives you the chance to get a taste of real Switzerland. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I could have spent an entire afternoon there. Be sure to climb up Schloss Rapperswil (the castle) to get excellent views of the scenery. Plus, there is even a little deer park!

Get Your Passport Stamped in Liechtenstein

I'm a believer that body count isn't everything when traveling. However, I'm not sad I made a quick trip to Liechtenstein to get my passport stamped. During our tour, we stopped in the capital city of  Vaduz, where we could see the royal family's castle. They actually still live there!

There are some small museums, shops, and restaurants. While you could absolutely make a trip to Liechtenstein for hiking or other outdoor sports, I was just here to swing by. That being said, I am very glad it was a part of my tour. It's a small country – gotta add it to this list!

Visit Heidiland

Visiting Heidiland is one of my favorite European experiences of all time. You do not need to be a Heidi fan or even have read the book to enjoy this experience. This quaint village is located within the stunning Swiss Alps. It is just beautiful.

While the town is home to two residents (it even has a working post office!), you can explore Heidi's Home, Winter home, barn, feed goats, and grab a snack. It is wonderful to just sit here and take it all in.
