The Top 8 Things to Do in Arabba, Italy

If you're looking for an unforgettable Italian vacation spot, look no further than Arabba. This small town is located in the heart of the Dolomites mountain range and offers some of the best skiing and hiking in all of Europe.

In addition to its natural beauty, Arabba also has a rich history and culture that makes it a unique and interesting place to visit. Here are eight things you absolutely must do when you're in Arabba!

Ride the Cable Car Sass Pordoi

Ride the Cable Car Sass Pordoi

Whether you're visiting Arabba in the summertime or winter, a ride on the cable car Sass Pordoi is a must. This popular attraction takes visitors up to the top of Mount Pordoi, where you'll be treated to stunning views of the surrounding Dolomites.

If you visit in the winter, you can even enjoy some skiing or snowboarding while you're up there. I went in the fall and was able to see some fantastic paragliding. Not for me, but it was sure cool to see.

Plus, there is a bar on top of the mountain, so you can enjoy some iconic views over a pint.

Hike or Bike the Passo Pordoi

The Passo Pordoi is one of the most popular hiking and biking trails in all of Arabba. The trailhead begins right in town, making it easily accessible for visitors.

The hike itself is about 6 miles round trip and takes you through some of the most gorgeous scenery in the area. You can always bike the trail if you're not up for the hike. Just be sure to bring your camera, because you're going to want to take lots of pictures!

Hike the Marmolada Glacier

During the winter season, a ski life can take you up here. However, if you try to visit it in the summertime, you'll want to be an experienced outdoors-person.

The Marmolada Glacier is the largest glacier in all of the Dolomites, and hiking to the top is no easy feat. However, those who make it are rewarded with incredible views of the surrounding mountains.

Enjoy Skiing or Snowboarding at the Arabba Ski Resort

The Arabba Ski Resort is one of the most popular ski destinations in all of Europe. Located in the heart of the Dolomites, the resort offers breathtaking views and endless opportunities for skiing and snowboarding.

Even if you don't ski or snowboard, the resort is worth a visit just to experience the stunning scenery. There are also a few restaurants at the resort, so you can enjoy a nice meal while you're there.

Visit the Museum of the First World War

The Museum of the First World War is a must-see for history buffs visiting Arabba.

The museum is very well done and provides a fascinating look into a little-known aspect of World War 1. If you're interested in learning more about the history of Arabba, this is the place to go.

Truthfully, I learned a lot about the significance of this area during the War, and I highly recommend familiarizing yourself with it. However, the most interesting aspect to me was learning how soldiers would create tunnels within the mountain ridge to try and attack the other side.

Explore the Old Town

The old town is one of the most charming parts of Arabba. With its narrow streets and quaint shops, it's easy to spend an afternoon exploring all that the old town has to offer.

Be sure to stop in at one of the many cafes for a bite to eat and a coffee. You can also find some great souvenirs in the shops if you're looking to take home a piece of Arabba.

Visit the Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo Apostol

When looking at old photographs of the village, you'll see that this church still stands even after the area's bloody history.

Reflect at the German Memorial

The German Memorial is a somber reminder of the dark history of Arabba. The Memorial commemorates the soldiers who lost their lives in both World Wars.

It is a bit complicated since it's obviously memorializing those lost on the wrong side of history. However, I believe the plaques do a good job of discussing the complications of its history and how it does not aim to credit the goals of Germany in WWI and WWII, but rather serve as a reminder to never repeat its past.

Arabba is a beautiful village with a lot to offer visitors. Whether you're interested in hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, or simply exploring the old town, there's something for everyone in Arabba. Be sure to add it to your list of places to visit in Italy!
