Things to Do in Aruba

Ever since my trips to Bonaire and Curaçao in 2024, I've been on a quest to complete the ABC islands. Thanks to the Embassy Suites by Hilton Aruba Resort, I finally got to complete that mission! This guide will cover a few of the best things to do in Aruba and a brief recap of what to expect at the Embassy Suites.

Things to Do in Aruba

Known for its clear blue waters, white sandy beaches, and vibrant culture, Aruba did not disappoint. Aruba is the sleepiest of the three islands, and is perfect if doing as little as possible and chilling at the beaches is your main priority. Here are some of the best things you can do during your stay in Aruba:

1. Explore Eagle Beach

California Lighthouse

Eagle Beach is often considered one of the best beaches in the world, and it's easy to see why. With crystal-clear water and soft white sand, this beach offers a picture-perfect setting for relaxation and fun in the sun. You can rent chairs and umbrellas, or bring your own beach towel and enjoy the views of the turquoise water and palm trees swaying in the breeze.

2. Visit Arikok National Park

For those looking to explore nature, Arikok National Park is a must-visit destination in Aruba. The park covers almost 20% of the island's land area and is home to various wildlife, including iguanas, birds, and deer. You can also find unique geological formations such as lava fields, caves, and natural pools within the park.

3. Try Local Cuisine

Aruban cuisine is a fusion of Caribbean, Latin American, and European influences that creates a mouthwatering culinary experience. Some must-try dishes include keshi yena, a stuffed cheese dish; pastechis, fried pastry filled with meat or cheese; and fresh seafood such as red snapper and mahi-mahi. Don't forget to also try the local beer, Balashi.

4. Explore Oranjestad

Oranjestad is the capital city of Aruba and has a unique mix of Dutch, Spanish, and Caribbean influences. Visitors can explore the colorful streets filled with colonial buildings, visit the historic Fort Zoutman, or go shopping in one of the many duty-free stores.

5. Pick Up Souvenirs at the Aruba Aloe Factory Museum and Store

Aruba is known for its aloe plants, and visitors can learn about the history and production of aloe at the Aruba Aloe Factory Museum and Store. Here, you can also purchase a variety of aloe-based products, including top-tier skincare items. I'm Greek so I almost never burn, but the Aruba sun was no joke. Their aloe came in clutch when I got my first real sunburn in years.

6. Take a Sunset Cruise

A catamaran in Aruba

You're on an island! Get out on the water. There's a variety of cruise options from formal dinners to fun pirate ships. I took a sunset cruise and saw the most beautiful colors in the sky as we sailed along the coast. The calm waters and gentle breeze made for a perfect end to the day.

7. Visit the California Lighthouse

California Lighthouse

Aruba's California Lighthouse is a must-see attraction. Located on the northernmost point of the island, this lighthouse offers stunning views of the coastline and surrounding landscape. You can even climb to the top for an even better view.

8. See the Aruba Butterfly Farm

If you know me in real life, you know that I hate butterflies. Seriously, I can't stand them. That said, the Aruba Butterfly Farm is a must-visit for anyone who loves these beautiful insects. Here, you can see hundreds of different species of butterflies in their natural habitat. I actually didn't hate this experience. PLUS it has a great cafe with excellent smoothies that was the perfect reward for putting on my brave face.
