Things to do in Athens, Greece: Dinner in the Sky
While entrance was provided by Dinner in the Sky Athens, all opinions are my own.
Dinner in the Sky Athens is nothing short of exceptional. Safely harnessed onto a table 40 meters in the air, you will enjoy a luxurious 6-course meal paired with local wines, all while watching the sunset on the Acropolis.
I have a love-hate relationship with Athens. If it wasn’t for my Greek ancestry I’m not sure I would continue to spend so much time there. However – Dinner in the Sky Athens is an absolute must-do experience when in Greece. I don't tell you to spend your hard-earned money on luxury often – but this is the experience you need on your vacation.
When you arrive at check-in you are greeted with a glass of local Greek wine and delicious hor dourves to snack on before take-off. Once everyone has arrived, the host will sit you at the 22-seat table and securely strap you into your seat. The seats are extremely comfortable (you don’t even notice the harness) and are able to recline in the air for those dare devils!
After a final safety check – it’s time to fly! Upbeat music set the mood for an incredible evening. The upbeat nature of the chefs, clapping guests, and incredible views set a tone of excitement that not many of us have felt in a long time during this pandemic.
As you fly, slowly rotating, your chefs prepare incredible selections of local plates. We started out with these delicious breads topped with local cheeses, classic Grecian olive oil, tomatoes, jams and more:
I then enjoyed a fresh salad (can you see those feta balls??)
And this gourmet moussaka? Unreal!
The food was so good I even forgot to take a photo of the fifth course –shrimp. I do not like fish – and I LOVED the shrimp served on this experience. Dinner in the Sky is truly one of my top five dining experiences in my entire life. You never wanted to stop eating!
After you’re stuffed to the brim you’ll enjoy your final dessert as the sun begins to fade away behind the Aegean Sea. The table rotates slowly yet frequently, and every angle is breathtaking. Whether you’re looking at the Parthenon, mountains or sea – your jaw will be open saying “wow” between bites.
It will soon be time to head down and say goodbye to your chefs. Or – choose to purchase a starlight dinner later in the week! The chefs and hosts of the experience were the epitome of Greek hospitality or φιλοξενία as us Greeks call it.
Dinner in the Sky Athens was truly a highlight of my recent trip to Greece – and one of the most memorable experiences of all my times in Greece. If you’re looking to add something truly special and unique to your trip to Athens – this experience is it.
Until next time, Athens.
